Frederic Zelnik

Friedrich Zelnik ( born May 17, 1885 in Chernivtsi, † November 29, 1950 in London) was a director, actor and producer.

Life

Zelnik graduated from high school in Czernowitz, then successfully studied law in Vienna and then went through several theaters stations to Berlin, where he worked for Oskar Messter as an actor in 1910.

In the 1910s Zelnik became known with elegant film roles in undemanding movies. In 1917 he married the Polish actress Lya Mara, he builds a star later. Around the same time he began to work as a director and producer, and retired as an actor. Apart from a few literary adaptations (Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy in 1920, The Weavers by Gerhart Hauptmann 1927) created Friedrich Zelnik primarily commercial entertainment goods, while several operetta films and the second German Edgar Wallace film The red circle. In 1929, he was the first German dubbing director in Hollywood.

Together with his wife left Zelnik Germany 1933 final and filmed in England and Holland. After he had acquired British citizenship, he anglicized his first name to Frederic. After 1940 he worked only as a producer.
