Frederick Christian I, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg

I. Friedrich Christian of Schleswig-Holstein -Sonderburg- Augustenburg ( born April 6, 1721November 13, 1794 ) was Duke of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Augustenburg. He was eldest son of Christian August (Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Augustenburg ) ( 1696-1754 ) and his wife Louise Frederikke Danneskiold - Samsøe ( 1699-1744 ).

When he inherited in 1754 Augustenburg and Gravenstein, the goods were highly indebted. Through a waiver of his inheritance in Schleswig and Holstein, he was able to obtain a high severance with the Danish king and expand its Country Estate on Als and Sundewitt. Thus he became the largest landowner in Schleswig. Also the construction of the family seat Augustenborg Castle could be initiated.

Friedrich Christian. Was Danish General and Knight of the Elephant Order.
