Frederick Christian II, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg

Friedrich Christian of Augustenburg ( born September 28, 1765 in Augustenburg, † June 14, 1814 ibid ) with full title Frederick Christian II, Duke of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- August Castle. Under his rule, the conflicts between the Augustenburger dukes and the Danish royal house began.

Life

He was the first son of Duke Friedrich Christian I. ( 1721-1794 ). He married on 27 May 1786 in Christiansborg Princess Louise Auguste of Denmark (* July 7, 1771; † January 13, 1843 ), and therefore laid claim to the Danish throne. 1786, he was the State Council in 1788 and Patron of the University of Copenhagen.

Together with Count Ernst Heinrich of mold man he offered in 1791 Friedrich Schiller an annual pension of 1,000 thalers, which was paid him three years to take him during his illness, financial worries.

His brother Christian August of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- August Castle was chosen as successor to the throne of Sweden, but died before the coronation. Frederick Christian II also showed interest in it, the Swedish krona, but was found in his castle Augustenburg by a Danish fleet under de facto house arrest; because even the Danish King Frederick VI. was interested in the domination of Sweden. The Swedish crown ultimately went to a native of France Charles XIV John.
