Frederick David Mocatta

Frederick David Mocatta ( born January 15, 1828 in London, † January 16, 1905 ) was an English entrepreneur and philanthropist.

Until 1874 he was head of the co-founded by his grandfather bullion brokerage firm Mocatta and Goldsmid, then almost exclusively philanthropic works, a senior member of the Anglo-Jewish Association, also promoted the Jewish scientist Leopold Zunz in Berlin.

Mocattas merit including the centralization of the Jewish philanthropic institutions. A part of his library he bequeathed to the Jewish National Library in Jerusalem, most of the Jewish Historical Society of England. He also emerged as a writer, his book The Jews of Spain and Portugal and the Inquisition (London 1877) was translated into several languages.
