Frederick is a city and the county seat ( county seat ) of Frederick County in the U.S. state of Maryland and Baltimore is the second largest city in the state. In the 2010 census 65 239 inhabitants lived in Frederick.

Location and area

According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2004, the village has a total area of 52.9 km ², consisting mostly of country. The only water areas are the run of the Monocacy River, which crosses the eastern part of the city, and the Carroll Creek in the center.

History

" Frederick Town" was built in 1745 by a group of German immigrants, whose leader was the former school teacher Johann Thomas Schley. He settled in the colony of Maryland with his wife, Maria Winz.

Within just three years, the city was proclaimed the county seat of Frederick County.
