Frederik Paulsen Sr

Frederik Paulsen ( born July 31, 1909 in Dagebüll, † 1997 Alkersum on Foehr; actually Friedrich Paulsen ) was a doctor of medicine and founder of Ferring Pharmaceuticals.

Paulsen was born on 31 July 1909 as Friedrich Paulsen in Germany, in the North Frisian Dagebüll. Both parents are from the North Sea island of Foehr. From the name of the island, the company name (company) Ferring is derived: The Frisian name for Foehr is Feer, the adjective is to fering ( with short e spoken).

1933, while studying medicine in Kiel, Paulsen came into conflict with the Nazis, so that in 1935 over Basel in Switzerland to Malmö, Sweden, fled to escape the concentration camp because of his political activities. In Sweden, whose citizen he was in 1942, he put his research on hormones and their synthesis is the basis for self-employment by Ferring in Malmö 1950. During the acquisition of Swedish citizenship Paulsen changed its original name Friedrich in Frederiksberg.

In 1988, Paulsen Ferring Foundation in Alkersum with the aim of creating an institution for the island of Fohr and all North Frisians on a sound economic foundation, which is to preserve their own language and culture.

After he had retired at the age of 60 years of the company's management, he died in 1997 at the age of 87 years in Alkersum on Foehr.
