Freeciv

Freeciv is a free, the classic game Civilization reinvented, turn-based strategy game that is distributed under the GNU General Public License.

As in the type Civilization the player as leader of a nation must be enlarged and bring prosperity. The ultimate goal is to conquer the world, the first expedition to Alpha Centauri or a victory on points after the end of normal time. From the programmers the goal of the fullest possible control compatibility for Civilization II is followed.

Originally the game had only one multi-player mode in which the player is on the LAN or Internet could compete with other players. Only with later versions ( from 1.4 rudimentary, playable from 1.6.4 ) computer opponents have been added, so that a single player mode is possible.

Freeciv there are, among others, for the operating systems Solaris, Linux, BSD, Unix, AmigaOS, Mac OS X and Windows. The AmigaOS port is available as version 1.18.0.

There is also a version that is playable online game in the web browser without installation.
