Freemen of the South Movement

Movimiento Libres del Sur is a social democratic Argentine party, which emerged in 2006 from the grouping Corriente Patria Libre and later founded Piquetero organization Barrios de Pie. It is allied with the Socialist Party and other center-left parties in the alliance Frente Amplio Progresista since 2011.

President of the party is Humberto Tumini. The party had in half the legislature between 2011 and 2013 a Member of the Argentine National Congress, Victoria Donda Pérez.

History

The oldest predecessor organization, the left-wing party Corriente Patria Libre, was founded in 1987. In 1994, recognition as a regional party in the province of Corrientes. 2001, the unemployment organization Barrios de Pie was founded, which co-operated more closely with Patria Libre and with the movement of Movimiento Libres del Sur united to 2006.

2007 the party for the first time to congressional elections. They integrated the Frente para la Victoria, founded by Néstor Kirchner in the province of Buenos Aires and won two seats in Congress. 2008 Libres del Sur withdrew from the Frente para la Victoria and approached other center-left parties such as the Partido Socialista on. 2011, it was part of the alliance Frente Amplio Progresista. In the 2011 election the party gained only one seat in Congress; the candidate of the Alliance Hermes Binner reached by far behind Cristina Fernández de Kirchner second place.

Substantive Profile

The party is the most important goal of social justice. Economically it strives for a directed economy, under the State and in the key industries such as petroleum and gas production. The state is a " strong state " control the economy, a conducive and " the weak against the powerful protect ." The party wants to enshrine and expand elements of grassroots democracy in the political system of Argentina at all levels ( state, provinces and municipalities ). Furthermore, it aims at a comprehensive nature conservation and environmental protection.

International strives Libres del Sur to a merger with other South American countries over the alliance Mercosur. In the current party program, which dates from shortly after the Argentine crisis, the U.S. under George W. Bush and his interventions sharply rejected and instead join forces with other leftist governments in South America policy is aimed at.

Known members

Humberto Tumini, president of the Party ( 2013), one of the founders of the predecessor organization Corriente Patria Libre and entered for this unsuccessfully in 1995 as a presidential candidate. It was during the military dictatorship of the Proceso de Reorganización Nacional at times of political prisoners.

The human rights activist Victoria Donda Pérez since 2007, Member of Parliament of the party in the National Congress.
