The Thalassa is a research vessel, which is for the French marine research institute Ifremer in use. Bereedert it is of Genavir. The ship is used primarily for fisheries research and oceanographic research.

History

The ship was built under the hull number 620 of the shipyard MIM Dieppe ( Some industry Marine) in Dieppe and completed in early May 1996.

Specifications

The propulsion of the ship is diesel electric. The performance of the Alstom - drive motor is 2200 kW. It acts on a fixed pitch propeller with a Becker rudder and the ship accelerates to 14.5 knots. The electricity for the electric motor via four twelve-cylinder four-stroke diesel engines manufacturer MWM Deutz (model: TBD 604 BV 12) with a capacity of 1128 kW. The engines drive four generators with an output of 1000 kW (apparent power: 1,250 kVA).

The ship has a respective bow and stern thrusters. The thruster has an output of 440 kW, the stern thruster with an output of 264 kW.

The hull of the ship is eisverstärkt.

Equipment

The ship is equipped with various facilities required for the research, including echo sounders, Sonar, thermosalinograph and Bathythermograph. From the research vessel, inter alia, the remote-controlled submersible vehicle " Victor 6000" can be used. The ship is equipped with a system for dynamic positioning.

For several research facilities are available, including four laboratories ( hydrology, physics, chemistry and biology ) and other scientific areas. Spaces are located on board for five 20 -foot containers.

The ship has several cranes, including a crane, which is located on the port side on the aft deck, a crane approximately amidships on the starboard side and a crane on the bow. At the stern of the ship is a stern gallows. Furthermore, there are various winches on deck.

On board, in addition to the crew is space for 25 scientists and other personnel needed for research trips.
