Friedrich August Kanne

Friedrich August Kanne ( born March 8, 1778 in Delitzsch, † December 16, 1833 in Vienna) was an Austrian composer and music writer of German origin.

Life and work

Pot first studied medicine in Leipzig and theology in Wittenberg, before he moved on studies of music, including in Dresden in Christian honor God Weinlig. 1801 was successfully listed his cantata "On the art of music " in Leipzig. In 1804 he moved to Vienna, where he worked as a music teacher, critic and poet, from 1821 to 1824 as editor of the Wiener general musical newspaper. Among his patrons and friends included Prince Franz Joseph Maximilian von Lobkowitz (whose piano teacher he was) and Ludwig van Beethoven. The last years were marked by poverty and alcohol abuse.

Pot was repeatedly successful as a composer of operas, such as " Orpheus " (1807 ) and "Miranda" (1811 ). Probably the biggest success was the magic opera " Lindane, or The Fairy and the hair cut-purse ", which experienced a total of 68 performances at the Theater in der Leopoldstadt 1824-1841. In addition to operas and incidental music he composed songs and duets, a fair, two symphonies and a few instrumental works. He has also written plays and poems. He also provided a variation on a waltz Anton Diabelli (which had suggested a total of 50 contemporary composers, each a variation on a waltz composed herself; Beethoven processed the issue in your own Diabelli Variations ).
