Friedrich Goll

Friedrich Goll ( born March 1, 1829 in Zofingen, Canton Aargau, † November 12, 1903 in Zurich ) was a Swiss physician and neuroanatomist.

Life and work

Goll, son of a merchant, graduated from the University of Zurich and the University of Würzburg medicine. In 1853 he received his doctorate in Zurich. He then worked at the physiologist Claude Bernard for two years in Paris. After his return to Zurich in 1855 he settled as a general practitioner in his own practice down. Goll habilitated in 1862. From 1863 to 1869 he headed the Medical Outpatient Clinic in Zurich. In 1885 he was appointed associate professor of pharmacology, a position he held until 1901.

Goll was particularly interested neurohistological studies. He described 1860 as the first fasciculus gracilis, a spinal cord web which is called after him as Goll bundle.

Friedrich Goll was married in 1864 with Eugenie Cellie.
