Friedrich Hirth

Friedrich Hirth ( born April 16, 1845 in Gräfentonna, Saxe-Gotha; † January 10, 1927 in Munich) was a German -American sinologist and historian.

Life

He studied in Leipzig, Berlin, and Greifswald ( Diss 1869). From 1870 to 1897 he was employed by the Chinese Seezolls. In 1902 he was appointed to the newly established Chair of Chinese at Columbia University (New York City).

The majority of the collection Hirth the Berlin State Library - Prussian Cultural Heritage is located in Krakow.
