Friedrich Samuel Bock

Friedrich Samuel Bock ( born May 20, 1716 in Königsberg, † September 30, 1785 ) was a German Protestant theologian, historian, librarian and writer.

Life

Friedrich Samuel Bock was a son of Königsberg city surgeons Georg Bock († 1729 ) and his wife Barbara Ditter. The poet and dialect researcher Johann Georg Bock was his brother.

Bock studied in his hometown and in Halle. After that, he was briefly a tutor. In 1743 Bock received his master's title. Five years later he was in his home chaplain. Consistory he was in 1753; the doctorate and the full professor title of theology was Friedrich Bock, 1754. During the years 1753-1779 he was a university librarian. The Biography of Duke Albrecht of Prussia was written by him. 1776 Bock put down all the offices in order to devote himself to writing.

Furthermore, managed and he examined the extensive collection of amber, the Königsberg Kommerzierats Friedrich Franz Saturgus. He took back one of the first naturalists in German-speaking to the already gained in antiquity, but discarded in the Middle Ages realization that Amber is fossilized tree resin.
