Friedrich Sustris

Friedrich Sustris (* around 1540 in Italy, † 1599 in Munich) was a German - Dutch painter, decorator and architect. He was the son of the Netherlands, operating in Italy artist Lambert Sustris.

Life

About the childhood Sustris little is known. It was not until the time of his teaching we know more about him. First, he went with his father Lambert Sustris in Venice and Padua in teaching. From 1563 to 1567 he was a pupil and assistant of Giorgio Vasari in Florence, having lived for a time in Rome about 1560. After these years of apprenticeship, he got a first order: Hans Fugger commissioned him the decoration and the decoration of the Fugger house in Venice.

Until 1573 he worked together with various agents, including Carlo Pallago, in Augsburg at the premises for the art collection of Hans Fugger in the rear part of the Fugger family homes.

After the execution of this contract, he joined in 1573 as an artist and art director in the service of the Bavarian Duke Wilhelm V and successor to the throne. A main task field was directing the transformation of the Trausnitz castle above Landshut.

With its government takeover and moved into the residence took him to Munich with Wilhelm V in 1579, to be granted by the Directorate on all important artistic projects. In 1583 he became a painter and chief architect in the service of the court. He brought the formal language of the Dutch- Italian Mannerism to Munich and thereby contributed significantly to that Munich rose to become the metropolis of German art of the late Renaissance. After the Duke had abdicated in 1597, Sustris stood in the personal services of the Duke.
