Lambert Sustris

Lambert Sustris (* around 1515 in Amsterdam, † unknown, probably after 1591 in Venice) was a Dutch artist and painter who was mainly in Italy and there especially active in Venice. He was also called by the nickname Alberto de Olanda ( Albert of Holland). Lambert Sustris created both mannerist mythological scenes and impressive portraits.

Life

Sustris Lambert was born in Amsterdam. He was probably trained in Haarlem or Utrecht, within Maarten van Heemskerck or by Jan van Scorel. Nevertheless, he spent most of his life in Italy, where he moved to very early. First, he went to Rome in the early 1530s. There, he held the same time as Heemskerck on before he moved to Venice in 1535. Presumably he played there 1542-1544 as a member of the workshop of Titian his livelihood. There, he specialized in landscape painting. It was and it is claimed that he had worked on the landscape of a painting of Mary in the Temple by Titian. 1548 remained Sustris, probably along with Titian, who was court painter to Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Augsburg. Here was a series of Fugger and portraits of rulers and by Hans East the famous portrait of Emperor Charles V at the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. Between 1550-51 a second stay in Augsburg still should follow with Titian. After this stay in Germany Sustris ' track loses. He probably returned to Venice and Padua. During this time he became increasingly influenced by Parmigianino and Andrea Schiavone. His style developed logically away from classical through to a Mannerist expression.

Sustris has his son Friedrich Sustris taught in painting, but it became more likely to architects and builders. He was also a teacher Girolamo Muzianos.
