Friedrich von Berchtold

Friedrich Graf von Berchtold, Freiherr von Ungarschitz (Czech: Bedřich Karel Eugen Všemír Hrabě Berchtold, Svobodný pán z Uherčic; born October 25, 1781 Straz nad Nežárkou, † April 3, 1876 in Buchlovice, Moravia ) was a physician and botanist. Life and work

The roots of are Berchtold in Austria. Friedrich von Berchtold received his doctorate in 1804, Dr. med and then was a member of the Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. Besides his work as a general practitioner, he worked extensively with the natural sciences, particularly botany. He made ​​several research trips through Europe, the Middle East and Brazil. His scientific publications also include a six -volume work on the flora of Bohemia.

Friedrich von Berchtold was an advocate of the National Revival of the Czechs. Together with his brother Leopold von Berchtold, he was (not his great-nephew of Foreign Minister Leopold Berchtold later ) involved in the founding of the Prague National Museum.

In 1805 he collected with Ferdinand of Geramb 65,000 guilders in donations for the risk of a famine residents of the Giant Mountains.
