Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow

Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow or Zachau ( baptized on November 14, 1663 in Leipzig, † August 7, 1712 in Halle) was a German composer of the Baroque.

Among his pupils were George Frideric Handel, Gottfried Kirchhoff, Johann Krieger and Johann Gotthilf Ziegler.

Origin

Zachow was the first son of the Leipzig violinist Heinrich Zachow, who originally came from Colin on the Spree and was from 1676 Stadtpfeifer in a hurry castle, and his second wife Elisabeth, née Maune, a daughter of Halle city Piper's Gottfried Maune. He was baptized at St. Nicholas Church in Leipzig.

Training

After Johann Gottfried Walther's Lexicon Musicalischem Zachow learned "together pending the school, both as organist - city -Pfeiffer- art ex fundamento " and visited one of the two Leipzig Latin schools, probably the Thomas School. After his father had been appointed Eilenburger Stadtpfeifer, Zachow got the organ with the Eilenburger organist Johann Hildebrandt and received musical inspiration from the Eilenburger cantors Johann Schelle (from 1677 cantor in Leipzig) and Basil Petritz ( 1694-1713 cantor of the Dresdner Cross Church ).

Career

1675 Heinrich Zachow took a job as a town musician in a hurry castle at the hollow at where he usually five years trained many apprentices, as it was in the guild in the Musizierkunst. With him and his son Friedrich Wilhelm learned different Stadtpfeifer instruments ( such as trumpet, Zincken, treble, Fife, Dulcian, Quart trombone, cornet, and bassoon ). Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow was elected on 11 August 1684 was the successor to the late Samuel Ebart organist of the Marienkirche in Halle. In addition to the organ service also included the leadership of the church music with the city of Halle Choir and the Town Musicians and the Directorate of the Municipal Chorus Musicus about this important musical Official Halles.

Private

Zachow was since 24 October 1693 Maria Dorothea Anschütz, a daughter of Eilenburger city magistrate and mayor Georg Anschütz, married, with whom he had three sons and two daughters.

To name letters
