Friend is a city in Saline County, Nebraska, United States. In the United States Census 2000, the city had 1174 inhabitants. The place has the Voluntary Fire Friend and a small police station with two patrol cars are equipped with radar.

Geography

The place is located on U.S. Highway 6, about 20 km south of Interstate 80, in the southeast of the county, about 65 km west- southwest of Lincoln.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.1 km ², without significant water areas. In the southeast of the urban area is a country club with a nine hole golf course, a sports complex in the south, Burley Park.

History

The town takes its name after Charles E. Friend, who had settled in Illinois coming here and its settlement Friend Ville baptized. He operated a store and a post office. Built in 1873, the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad is a train station and called the station Friend.

The National Greyhound Association was founded in 1906 in this city under its original name National Coursing Association.
