Friends of Dean Martinez

Friends of Dean Martinez is an American band from Tucson, Arizona, founded by Bill Elm, Joey Burns and John Convertino. There is both historically and musically, a staff relationship to the well-known band Calexico, Joey Burns and John Convertino as left after the first album Friends Of Dean Martinez, and then concentrated to Calexico, but the music of Friends of Dean Martinez is in contrast to the Calexico exclusively instrumental.

Band History

Joey Burns and John Convertino were members of the group Giant Sand while came Bill Elm Naked Prey. Originally called the band "Friends of Dean Martin " after management Dean Martin had threatened a lawsuit, the group decided, however, changing the name to its present form. After the departure of Burns and Convertino the sound solidified to the now continuous, often named desert rock style that sometimes recalls the formative Steel Guitar Bill Elms on movie soundtracks and in some titles and associations to work Ennio Morricone evokes. Instruments like vibraphone, organ, or even a string quartet supplemented on previous recordings the sound, but the core is formed by the combination of steel guitar, electric guitar and drums. This ( with occasional keyboard inserts of Elm ) is the instrumentation with the Friends Of Dean Martinez can be seen at concerts and also appears on the live albums. Most tracks on the album are original compositions, occasionally there will also adapted cover versions of American classics by Henry Mancini, George Gershwin and others.
