Fritz Bondroit

Fritz Bondroit ( born March 26, 1912 in Herford, † 19 September 1974) was a German canoeist, who in 1936 won an Olympic silver medal.

Bondroit launched for the canoe club Herford. 1934 and 1935 he won together with Ewald Tilker the German championship in the double kayak over 1000 meters. 1936 occupied the two behind Willi Horn and Erich Hanisch second place. 1934 had Bondroit and Tilker won the European Championship on the 1,000 - meter course. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 and Bondroit Tilker subject to the Austrians Adolf Kainz and Alfons Dorfner. The Germans were driven only as a third party over the finish line, but the Swedish boat, which had been pushed to second place, was disqualified because it had the Germans hindered.

Fritz Bondroit was a skilled metal craftsmen. After his sporting achievements, he received from the city of Herford a scholarship to finance his engineering studies.
