Fritz d'Orey

Fritz d' Orey ( born March 25, 1938 in São Paulo ) is a former Brazilian race car driver.

The parents of Fritz d' Orey came from Portugal. His atypical for a Brazilian first name Fritz refers to his grandfather, who was German. His parents ran a Packard agency in Sao Paulo, and d' Orey came so early with motor racing in contact. His first car was a Porsche Spyder. Later he bought from his compatriot Chico Landi its Formula 1 Ferrari, with which he began in the late 1950s in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay to regularly go racing.

In 1959, he came to Europe and started for the Scuderia Centro Sud small Italian team in the Formula 1 World Championship. DC debut at the Grand Prix of France, he had a serious accident. After another brief appearance at the Grand Prix of Great Britain, he drove for Camoradi Racing with the Tec -Mec Maserati even the U.S. Grand Prix. In none of the three Grand Prix he was able to place and his Formula 1 career remained unfinished.

Parallel to the Monposti drove d' Orey well as sports car racing, and this so successful that Ferrari offered him a contract for work for 1960, which he accepted. But already in the first race at Monza had d' Orey, who said of himself, "I 'm a big naughty child remained " a serious accident after a collision with his team-mate Phil Hill.

Fritz d' Oreys career ( he almost always went beyond their means ) ended 1960 in a pub at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He raced in the early morning hours with a Ferrari Scuderia Serenissima against a tree and pulled himself so seriously injured that he had to spend eight months in the hospital. He was able to completely recover, but never drove a race again.
