Fritzi Löwy

Friederike ( Fritzi ) Löwy (* 1910 in Vienna, † 1994) was an Austrian swimmer.

She was a member of the Jewish sports club Hakoah Vienna SC. Lowy won 25 championships in freestyle and put the 1927 European record over 200 meters freestyle on. In the same year she and her club colleague Hedy field bees collected at the European Championships in Bologna silver and bronze. Only after more than 70 years, an Austrian swimmer Maxim Podoprigora again scored a success at the European Championships.

The end of 1939, she fled to Italy, after entry of the German Wehrmacht in September 1943, she managed to escape to Switzerland. After the war she emigrated to Australia, but later returned to Vienna, where she worked as a secretary.
