Fujiwara no Morozane

Fujiwara no Morozane (Japanese藤原 师 実, * 1042, † March 14, 1101 ) was a regent for the Tennō and head of the influential Fujiwara family during the late Heian period.

He was also known as Kyogoku dono ( Prince Kyogoku ) or Go- dono Uji (later Prince Uji ,后 宇 治 殿) is known. He has held the positions of a regent ( Sesshō or Kampaku ) twenty years:

  • 1075-1086 Sessho for Emperor Shirakawa
  • 1086-1094 Kampaku for Emperor Horikawa,
  • 1094-1099 Sessho for Emperor Horikawa.

He was the son of Fujiwara no Yorimichi and Fujiwara no Gishi (藤原 只 子, her birth name is no longer known today ), a daughter of Fujiwara no Tanenari (藤原 种 成); over this connection it is also the grandson of Fujiwara no Michinaga.

A contemporary document suggests that he may have been the third son. He had successively held the positions of Sadaijin, Sessho and Kampaku. His adopted daughter Kenshi (贤 子) he made for the wife of Emperor Shirakawa. While Kenshi died at a young age, but left a son, who should ascend the throne as Emperor Horikawa later.

However, Emperor Shirakawa usurped political power for themselves and Morozane could no longer enjoy the monopoly position of power, who still had his father and grandfather. Even after Emperor Horikawa attained the age of majority and Shirakawa abdicated and retired to the monastery, Shirakawa held the power in the hands further.

Morozane married Fujiwara no Reishi, daughter of Minamoto no Morofusa, a grandson of Emperor Murakami, later adopted by Fujiwara no Nobuie. Morozane had many children, including Fujiwara no Moromichi and Fujiwara no Ietada. Two families of Kuge From Morozane come from, the family and the family Kazanin Oimikado (Oi -no- mikado ).

Morozane is also the author of Waka Collection Kyogoku Kampakushū (German anthology of Kyogoku Kampaku ) and the diary Kyogoku Kampaku -ki (English Diary of Kyogoku Kampaku ) known.
