Funkadelic

Funkadelic was an African American funk band that was successful in the 1970s and 1980s. Among other things, to its members belonged to the Radio bassist Bootsy Collins.

Originally Funkadelic, the backing band for The Parliaments, a vocal group led by founder George Clinton, who later called themselves Parliament. Under the name of difficulty to the group (about 1969) she called in the wake of the psychedelic fashion in the late sixties in style to and practiced by a music style, to the name of Parliament could be used again. From this point, there were two groups, Parliament and Funkadelic, at the same time and brought with various labels publications out what was absolutely unusual in the seventies. End of the seventies, this publication policy ( parts of it were, among others, as P- Funk All Stars revived ) led to numerous interconnected lawsuits that eventually had the unofficial dissolution of this band result. The last LP By Way of the Drum was taken around 1988, but in 2007 released because the record company did not promise commercial success of it. In all publications after it was Best Ofs, Greatest Hits, and the like in ever new combinations.

Otherwise, the distinction is difficult because in publications and live performances Funkadelic practically consisted of the same cast as Parliament. However, their music style was more oriented towards rock than in Parliament. They thus considered forerunners of the radio Rocks or the crossover.

In 1997, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
