F The Furtwängler Glacier is located near the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro massif in Tanzania. The glacier is part of the remaining remnant of the vast ice sheet that once covered Mount Kilimanjaro. It is named after Walter Furtwängler, who had left together with Siegfried King in 1912 as the first from the summit on skis.

Between 1979 and 2007 the area of ​​Furtwängler Glacier from 113,000 m² to 35,000 m² returned, representing a decrease of 69%. In 2006, a big hole in only a thickness of six meters having glacial ice was discovered by scientists in the vicinity of the glacier center. It is assumed that, starting from this hole will decay of glaciers soon into two parts. In October 2012, the area was 25,000 m².

The glacier drained by mountain streams to Weruweru in the river system of the Pangani.
