Fyodor Stepun

Fedor Stepun (Russian Федор Августович Степун, scientific transliteration Fedor Avgustovič Stepun; German eigtl Friedrich Steppuhn; born February 19, 1884 in Moscow, † February 23, 1965 in Munich) was a Russian- German writer, sociologist, philosopher and politician.

Life

The Stepuns family was German and Lithuanian origin. Fedor Stepun spent his childhood on the estate of his father, who was director of a paper mill. In 1900 he made ​​a, graduation comparable degree from the Technical University of St. Michael in Moscow. In 1901 he joined an artillery division in the military service. He then went to study in Germany, but graduated in 1904 yet another military training in Russia.

Stepun first studied philosophy at Heidelberg and wrote his doctorate in 1910 with Wilhelm diaper band. With Max Weber and Georg Simmel, he founded the magazine logos that simultaneously appeared in Petersburg and in Tübingen both.

Stepun remained in Germany (Dresden and Rottach ) and wrote during the war years his memoirs. In October 1946, he was at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich Honorary Professor of Russian intellectual history. He taught there until 1964 and also developed a lively lectures, particularly in Switzerland and Scandinavia, but also for German radio stations. At the 10th German Sociological 1950 in Detmold Stepun was keynote speaker next to Helmut Schelsky.

Stepun was buried at the North Cemetery in Munich.
