Gabriel Miró

Gabriel Francisco Víctor Miró Ferrer ( born July 28, 1879 in Alicante, † May 27, 1930 in Madrid) was a Spanish writer.

Life

Gabriel Miró attended from 1887 to 1892 the Jesuit College of Santo Domingo in Orihuela and graduated from the High School at the Instituto de Enseñanza Media in Alicante. At the universities of Valencia and Granada, he studied law until completion in 1900.

In 1901 he married Clemencia Maignon, the daughter of the French consul in Alicante; out of this marriage came the daughters of Olympia ( * 1902) and Clemencia (* 1905) shows.

In 1910 he published Las cerezas del cementerio; this was the starting point of his literary career. This was followed in 1915 El abuelo del rey and Figuras de la Pasión del Señor ( 1916-17 ) and in 1917 El Libro de Siguenza. He worked as a civil servant in Alicante until he moved in 1920 as a freelance writer and journalist to Madrid. Miró lived a retired life, suffered economic hardship, and had a rather melancholy temperament.

Work

Miró is attributed generally to the Generación del 14, the so-called " sons " of the Generación del 98 He is best known for his autobiographical inspired, evocative and poetic novels which have their strengths in the descriptive element. Miró is similar Azorin a contemplative type; sensory impressions, such as color, light and taste take a high priority in his work. His novels are just an impressionistic series of scenes in which the description of the landscape is the most important element basically. The mood of his work is the melancholy; he used a carefully elaborated poetic prose with many metaphors and synesthesia, with great attention to detail and a slow rhythm. Miró is very original in the setting of adjectives and has a rich vocabulary.
