Gabriela Scherer

Gabriela Scherer ( born 1981 in Zurich ) is a Swiss mezzo-soprano.

Training

Her vocal studies she began after many years of choral activities at Helen Keller ( SMPV ) in Zurich. She studied from 2002 to 2006 at the University Mozarteum Salzburg with Prof. Horiana Branisteanu and Prof. KS Elisabeth Wilke.

Career

She has performed in numerous concerts in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. In her studies, she had been to the opera productions Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach, Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Momo and the Time Thieves by Mark Lothar and in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. She sang the beginning of 2005 in Switzerland under the Württemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen, Le Laudi of Hermann Suter.

She has performed at theaters Frankfurt ( Oder), Brandenburg and Potsdam, among others in the roles Hansel. In June 2006, she played the Second Lady in Mozart's The Magic Flute in Dornach, Switzerland. From September 2006 she is member of the International Opera Studio in Zurich.

Other roles in her repertoire are: Orpheus from Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, Olga from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Charlotte from Massenet's Werther, Sesto and Cornelia from Handel's Julius Caesar, Orlofsky from Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss and especially the mezzo roles from the operas by WA Mozart ( Cherubino, Ramiro, Zerlina, Annio, Sesto, Dorabella, Farnace ).

Awards

She was 2005 winner of the International Singing Competition of Chamber Opera Schloss Rheinberg. There, she made her debut in the summer of the same year in the role of Hansel in Humperdinck's fairy-tale opera " Hansel and Gretel". For this role she was awarded the Prize of the Vera and Volker double box foundation. She is the recipient of the Armin - Weltner Foundation and the Lyra Foundation. At the 9th International Mozart Competition in Salzburg in 2006, she received an audience award.
