Gabriele Eckart

Gabriele Eckart ( born March 23, 1954 in Falkenstein / Vogtland ) is a German writer.

Life

Gabriele Eckart studied from 1972 to 1976 Philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She graduated from the state exam. In 1979 she took part in a writing course at the Johannes R. Becher Institute for Literature in Leipzig. After two volumes of poetry and a band with travel reports her next release should be a collection of interviews she had conducted with people in the Havel country. Although excerpts published in 1983 and 1984 in literary magazines in the GDR, the publication of the entire text, which contained many critical passages to the conditions in East Germany, but was prevented by the state. The book So ick see it therefore appeared only in 1984 in a West German edition.

1987 Eckart took a visit to the Frankfurt Book Fair to move to the Federal Republic of Germany; their GDR citizenship they kept. In 1988 she emigrated to the USA where she continued her studies. In 1993 she received the degree of Master of Arts ( MA) at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and in 1993 she completed her doctorate at the University of Minnesota as a doctor of philosophy. Since 1999 she has worked as a teacher for German and Spanish at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.
