Gairdner Foundation

The Gairdner Foundation is a Canadian science foundation based in Toronto. It was 1957, donated by James Arthur Gairdner, a businessman from Toronto. You should recognize and reward outstanding scientific achievements in medicine and the life sciences.

The Gairdner Foundation awards several prestigious medical prizes. The winners will present their research projects as part of the weeklong Gairdner National Program at several Canadian academic institutions.

In 2008, the Canadian government supported the Gairdner Foundation with 20 million Canadian dollars ( CAD), which raised all the prize money on 100,000 CAD and the new Canada Gairdner Global Health Award were awarded. The awards were renamed in Canada Gairdner [ ... ] Awards.

Canada Gairdner Awards

The loans granted by the Gairdner Foundation prices are:

  • The Canada Gairdner International Award has been awarded since 1959 and is considered one of the most prestigious medical prices ever. About one- quarter of its carrier later won a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
  • The Canada Gairdner Wightman Award is named after Keith JR Wightman, who received him in 1976 as the first. It recognizes excellence Canadian leaders of the medicine and medical research.
  • The Canada Gairdner Global Health Award has been awarded since 2009. There are excellent scientific achievements that have the effect of substantially improving health in developing countries or may cause.
