Gaius Rubellius Blandus

Gaius Rubellius blandus (* in Tibur; † after 42 AD) was a Roman senator of the early imperial period.

Rubellius came from Tibur; his family originally belonged to the equestrian order. His political career began in 1 AD as quaestor Augusti. 6 AD he was a military tribune, praetor 11 AD and 18 AD Suffektkonsul. Tacitus mentions that he applied 20 AD in the Senate to ban Lepida Aemilia, wife of Drusus Germanicussohnes, and the following year voted against the banishment of the poet Clutorius Priscus. In 33 he married Julia Livia, granddaughter of the Emperor Tiberius and Nero Caesar 's widow. His son from this marriage, Rubellius Plautus, was executed in 62 AD, when rumors were voiced that he was planning a revolt against Nero. 35/36 AD was Rubellius blandus proconsul of the province of Africa. After his return he was with other members of the imperial family to a Commission, which took care of the damage done by a fire on the Aventine damage. He also served as pontiff.
