Galactose—1-phosphate uridylyltransferase
- OMIM: 606 999
- UniProt: P07902
Galactose -1-phosphate uridyl transferase (GALT ) is the enzyme in galactose -1-phosphate binds galactose to UDP. This is the second sub-step in the degradation of galactose. GALT occurs in eukaryotes and a few bacteria. Mutations in the GALT gene in humans can lead to GALT deficiency and to this classic galactosemia.
Catalysed equilibrium
UDP is transferred from UDP -glucose to galactose or vice versa.
