Galatas, Troizina

Galatas (Greek Γαλατάς ( m. sg. ), Milk dealers ') is a city on the east coast of the Peloponnese to the Saronic Gulf opposite the islands of Poros and Kalavria in Greece. Galatas itself has 2,592 inhabitants and is the capital and seat of the municipality Trizinia; together with three small settlements, each with a few dozen inhabitants, it also forms a locality ( Dimotiki Kinotita Δημοτική Κοινότητα ) of Trizinia.

Galatas is surrounded by citrus groves and has plenty of shops and tavernas. In the harbor lay the small ferries and boats from the island of Poros. North of the village are the domed tombs at Galatas.

Previously sold there, the goatherds milk and cheese. Their herds were grazing in the area and on the Aderes-/Tembeleni-Bergzug.

From Galatas one has a good view of the island of Poros, which is separated from the mainland only by a narrow strait. In ancient times there was a swamp between Galatas and Poros.
