Gallows Hill from the north

The Gallows is a 506.1 m above sea level. NN high elevation of the resin at Elbingerode, in the district of Harz, Saxony- Anhalt.

The Gallows Hill is located in the Lower Harz Harz nature park / Saxony -Anhalt east of Elbingerode and marks the highest point of the located there limestone cliff train. Just north of Gallows Hill was probably the Trockweg which led from Quedlinburg past the Palatinate Bodfeld on the resin. To the east of the mountain lies the deserted village Erdfelde who stood with Bodfeld closely related. Immediately to the south is spreading a large limestone quarry.

As the name of the mountain, Gallows Hill, can be seen already, is this to be the place of execution of the former city Elbingerode.

The Gallows is included as No. 38 in the system of stamp locations of the Harz hiking pin.
