Galium rotundifolium

The circular blade cleaver or Round-leaved bedstraw ( Galium rotundifolium ) is a plant of the family Rubiaceae ( Rubiaceae ).

Description

The circular blade cleaver is a small, evergreen, herbaceous perennial plant, the plant height of about 15 to 30 centimeters rarely achieved and has an ascending flaccid stems.

Within the genus the broadly elliptic or ovate leaves are typical of the kind that are at most 2.5 times as long as wide. You are busy at the edges with fine barbed tips to hairy white- bristly. In addition to the median nerve are two more lateral nerves that go from the leaf base in a bow almost to the tip, to see, so that the leaves look like three annoying. At each node are exactly four leaves.

The small white flowers are in a loose, terminal, such as umbrella-shaped Thyrse. The flowering time is depending on the location from June to September. The fruits are covered with bristles hakigen.

Distribution and habitat requirements

The circular sheet - bedstraw occurs mainly in spruce and fir mixed forests and spruce forests. In the mountains it is common, otherwise it is very absent-minded.

It is found only in the temperate regions of Europe.

There are two similar species in North America, which are sometimes regarded as varieties of the round leaf Labkrauts, namely Galium circaezans Michx. var = circaezans rotundifolium Galium L. var circaezans ( Michx. ) Kuntze and Galium lanceolatum Torr. = Galium rotundifolium L. var lanceolatum ( Torr. ) Kuntze.
