Gambrinus (beer)

Gambrinus is a brand of beer in the Czech Republic. It is now brewed as well as Pilsner Urquell Pilsner Urquell from the brewery in Pilsen. Gambrinus is a pilsner beer which has been brewed since 1869. More than 250,000 hectoliters of beer are produced.

The original brewery was founded in 1869 under the name First Pilsener Aktienbrauerei. This first used only for its beer, and later as a brewery name, Gambrinus Pilsner brand ( German Pilsner Gambrinus ).

After the Second World War, the brewery was merged with the older Civil Brauhaus (beer brand Pilsner Urquell ) under the name Pilsner breweries and nationalized. 1992-1994, the state-owned enterprises have been privatized and given the name Pilsner Urquell as ( German Pilsner Urquell ). Since 1999, the company belongs to the group South African Breweries plc.

The name comes from Gambrinus, the legendary inventor of the beer. The brewery 's namesake and sponsor of the Gambrinus Liga.
