Ganden Tripa

Ganden Thripa (also: Ganden Tripa, Gaden Tripa, Gaden Tri Rinpoche; wylie: dga ' ldan khri pa, Thdl: Ganden Tripa, transcription of the PRC: Gandain Chiba; Throne Holder, abbot of Ganden ) refers to the highest office within the hierarchy of the Gelug order of Tibetan Buddhism. The respective Ganden Thripa symbolized in this tradition, the succession of Tsongkhapa, founder of the Order, and is " head of the Gelugpa ".

An exception was notably the time of Gendun Drup who was posthumously called the first Dalai Lama. From 1438 to 1475 he held the position of Gyelwa and was " head of the Gelugpa ". The Ganden Thripa was during the time of his ministry in the rank below him. So outstanding Gendun was Drup that after his death no one dared to be his successor. Therefore, whether the position of the Gyelwa, the Head of the school, initially remained deserted.

The Gelug tradition is due to the great importance of Ganden Monastery Ganden sometimes also called tradition. In the wake of the political upheavals in Tibet the headquarters of Ganden Thripa after Mundgod, Karnataka was moved.
