Gangara is a rural municipality in the Department Gazaoua in Niger.

Geography

Gangara is located at the junction of Great Landscape Sudan Sahel and shares land borders with the neighboring state of Nigeria. The neighboring communities in Niger are Aguie in the northwest and Gazaoua in the Northeast. The municipality is divided into 21 administrative villages, 14 hamlets and 16 stock. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Gangara.

History

Gangara was originally dependent on the emirate Katsina and came early 20th century under the control of France. 1903 there was a revolt of the villagers against the French, which was defeated.

The rural community Gangara went out in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton Gangara. Since 2011 part of the rural community not to Aguie Department, but for the newly created Department Gazaoua.

Population

At the 2001 census Gangara had 29,255 inhabitants. For the year 2010 39.532 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in that narrow zone along the border with Nigeria, ranging from Tounouga in the west to the east Malawa and operated in irrigated crop production for cash crops.
