Gazaoua

Region

Gazaoua is a rural municipality and the capital of the eponymous department Gazaoua in Niger.

Geography

Gazaoua lies in the large landscape Sudan and shares land borders with the neighboring state of Nigeria. The neighboring communities in Niger are Koona and Maïjirgui in the north, and Hawandawaki Korgom the east and Aguie and Gangara in the West. The municipality is divided into 55 administrative villages, a traditional village, 59 hamlets and 36 stock. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Gazaoua.

History

Gazaoua and Maradi were the goals of refugees from Katsina, Katsina after the Fulbe had finally defeated in 1812. While Maradi first had to submit to the supremacy of the Fulbe, the Katsina refugees in Gazaoua managed to repel all attacks from the beginning of the Fulbe. In the 1850s, the German explorer Heinrich Barth visited the place.

1964 divided an administrative reform in Niger 32 arrondissements, the forerunner of the later departments. Gazaoua was the newly created district Tessaoua slammed (later Department Tessaoua ) and received the status of an administrative post ( poste administratif ) within the territory of the arrondissement. Administrative posts were special territorial units one level below arrondissements that were regarded as a kind of precursor to a later conversion into a separate district. Initially, this was not implemented in the case of Gazaoua, the community remained at Tessaoua. Later Aguie including Gazaoua was removed as department of Tessaoua. A management level below the departments Gazaoua belonged to the canton Aguie. 2002 Gazaoua was removed as part of a further administrative reform as a separate rural municipality in the canton of Aguie. When the floods in West and Central Africa 2010 1881 Resident of Gazaoua were classified as disaster victims. The administrative posts of Gazaoua was finally removed in 2011 from the Department Aguie and collected at the Department Gazaoua.

Population

At the 2001 census Gazaoua had 80 107 inhabitants. For the year 2010 108.250 inhabitants were calculated. Gazaoua is a traditional center of Azna.

Economy and infrastructure

The community is located at the junction of the zone of rain -fed agriculture of the north to the zone of the irrigation field economy of the South. By Gazaoua the National Road 1, which connects the village to the regional capitals of Maradi and Zinder runs.
