Coat of arms

In the Middle Ages the way across the Koralpe with wood and brambles was blocked in times of war, so scrub is shown in the center of the emblem. The place name " Garanas " comes from the Old Slavic and originally meant " heckenumfriedeter, spine reinforced place ".

As the country was settled, the farmers had to tear out the birches, in the upper and lower part of the emblem these bushes are shown.

Because the name Garanas is unique in Austria, the upper part of the undergrowth were added three flowers. The red and white colors of the emblem symbolize the medieval landowners: The bishops of Salzburg and Brixen.
