The station Besancon Viotte is the most important railway station in the French city of Besançon. The station is operated since 1981 by the TGV. Since December 11, 2011, the city has a second remote station on the new LGV Rhin- Rhône, is the Besançon Franche -Comté TGV train station.

History

The station was opened in 1855, as this site was preferred. 1856, the road to Bourg -en- Bresse was put into operation, in 1858 the route to Belfort and 1872, the route to Vesoul. But the station was too far for the city outside and therefore the additional station Besançon la Mouillère was built in 1884, this is due to the previous operation in the same year track Besançon -Le Locle. However, this station was of smaller importance than the Viotte station.

The Viotte station was bombed on the night of July 15, 1943 by aircraft of the Royal Air Force, the station was the next morning to rubble. In 1962 the city council decided the station building of Besançon la Mouillère demolish and build a new building for the station Viotte. This still exists today.

Infrastructure

The station had a large depot. Among other things, Micheline were located in Besançon. The station has four platforms, there are 8 platform tracks, of which one is a dead-end track. In the years 2009 to 2011, the station was rebuilt, including elevators were built and erected new platforms. This is due to the commissioning of the LGV Rhin -Rhône.

Operation

The station is served by trains of the TER Franche -Comté TGV and Corail by Lunéa ( night train ).

Mid- 2015, the station can be connected to the network of tram Besançon. This is intended to include, at a later point in time two lines.
