The Gare Saint- Lazare (German Saint-Lazare Station ) is one of the six large terminus stations in Paris, in the 8th arrondissement, near the big department stores. About him the regional transport is mainly carried out in the Ile- de -France and with about 100 million passengers per year ( 274,000 per day) it is the second largest train station in Paris.

History

The history of the Gare Saint- Lazare begins in 1837 with the opening of the Chemin de fer de Paris à Saint- Germain. First, we built a temporary wooden station ( l' embarcadère de Paris) on the Place de l'Europe.

1841 was a second provisional, but this time a brick, railway station in the rue de Stockholm, built in front of the Place de l'Europe. The project of the brothers Pereire, the operator of the railway line, the distance in the direction of Paris city center to extend to the Rue Tronchet, failed because of the resistance of the city administration and the affected residents of a possible new route. Therefore, the project was still left in the fall that same year.

The third station was built in 1842-1853 at its present location, the Rue du Havre, by the architect Eugène Flachat. 1889 was one - made ​​necessary by the World Exhibition - substantial growth led by the architect Jules Lisch, Gare Saint- Lazare its present appearance.

Today the station has 27 tracks and is with the Parisian public passenger transport facilities connected ( metro, RER and bus).
