Garigliano Nuclear Power Plant

F1

Decommissioned Reactors ( gross ):

The nuclear power plant was a Garigliano nuclear power plant at Sessa Aurunca, Caserta in Italy on the river Garigliano, which was in operation from 1964 to 1982. Current owners and operators is the Società gestione impianti Nucleari ( SOGIN ), while the operating time it was until 1965 Società Nazionale ElettroNucleare and then Enel.

Reactor

The Garigliano nuclear power plant consisted of a boiling water reactor with a net electrical output of 150 MW and a gross capacity of 160 MW. Thus it was with the nuclear power plant Latina the lowest performing nuclear power plant in Italy. The reactor was among the first generation of nuclear plants.

History

In 1957 the project ENSI ( Energia Nucleare Sud Italia ) was designed to build a nuclear power plant in southern Italy. Twenty producers were placed in the tender for the construction of the power plant, 1958, the contract was finally signed with General Electric. Construction of the reactor was on November 1, 1959. The reactor was on June 5, 1963 for the first time critical. On January 1, 1964, the nuclear power plant was first synchronized with the power grid, as of 1 June 1964 was in commercial operation. The nuclear power plant was last used in 1978 for commercial power generation, since 1978 a loss on at a secondary steam generator. On March 1, 1982, there was finally shut down, as the operator Enel in 1981 decided that the cost of repair would be too high. In November 1999, the plant was how to pass all the other nuclear power plants in Italy, Società gestione impianti Nucleari ( SOGIN ). By 2016, the power plant should be completely dismantled.
