Gary Jennings

Gary Jennings ( born September 20, 1928 in Buena Vista, Virginia, † March 13, 1999 in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey) was an American writer.

Life

Gary Jennings worked after high school 1949-52 as a copywriter and studied the way in the Art Students League of New York; but he never graduated from a regular course and was self-taught as a writer. During the Korean War he served from 1952 as a correspondent in the infantry and was awarded the Bronze Star. After his return in 1954, he worked as a newspaper reporter and as an artist in advertising. He started writing and initially published some science fiction stories that appeared in magazines until he quit his job, went to Mexico and twelve years he lived in San Miguel de Allende. There, he learned Spanish and was fascinated by the Aztecs, whose history and language, he studied and about which he his first bestseller Aztec (1980 ) wrote (and later two sequels ).

Jennings wrote both children's books and historical novels for which he is best known. In his novels, he was able to describe in detail and alive each period based on individual destinies. For the background to his novels, he researched some years and has published extensive books, often with more than 500,000 words.
