Gary Stevens (Alaska politician)

Gary L. Stevens ( born August 21, 1941 in McMinnville, Oregon ) is an American politician and since 2003 in the Senate Senator from Alaska.

Stevens attended Linfield College, where he received his Bachelor in 1963, and studied at the University of Oregon. There, Stevens received his master's degree in 1965 ( M.F.A. ). Subsequently, he attended from 1965 to 1966, the University of California, Los Angeles before the United States Army serving in the 1967-1970. 1975 to 1996 Stevens was a professor at Kodiak College, University of Alaska. In 1984 he was awarded the doctoral degree Ph. D. at the University of Oregon.

His political career began as Mayor of the Borough Kodiak Iceland. 1976 to 1978 he was a member of the City Council ( City Council ) of Kodiak and was from 1978 to 1979 mayor of the city. After that, he was from 1989 to 1992 and from 1994 to 1996 Member of the Assembly (Assembly ) of Iceland Borough Kodiak. In his second term, Stevens was 1995 to 1996 the chairman of the meeting.

After Steven had failed with a bid for a seat in the Senate of Alaska in 1996 and 1998 with a candidacy for a seat in the House of Representatives from Alaska, he was elected in 2000 as a Republican in the House of Representatives from Alaska and was there from 2001 until his appointment as senator MPs. February 2003, he moved to the Senate from Alaska for the vacant seat of Alan Austerman vacant and has since worked as a senator.

Stevens is married and has three children, one son and two daughters. He lives with his family in Kodiak, Alaska.
