Gary Valente

Gary Valente ( born June 26, 1953 in Worcester (Massachusetts ) ) is an American trombonist of Modern Creative Jazz.

Life and work

After completing his studies Valente worked primarily with Carla Bley (until 1996 ) and was also with her band at Nick Mason's album " Fictitious Sports" (1981 ) involved. In 1982 he participated in the Liberation Music Orchestra by Charlie Haden, with whom he appeared on the Berlin Jazz Festival. He also played with Ed Schuller, but also with George Russell, Joe Lovano, George Gruntz, Andy Sheppard, Lester Bowie, Gato Barbieri, Paquito D' Rivera, Jean -Marie Machado, Matt Manieri or the "Jazz Warriors". Together with his colleagues Ray Anderson, Craig Harris and George Lewis, he formed the a cappella playing the trombone quartet " Slide Ride".

Valente is characterized by an "extremely powerful, proud trumpet sound " of ( so Ssirus W. Pakzad ).
