Gavin Wilkinson

Gavin Wilkinson ( 2009)

Gavin Wilkinson ( born November 5, 1973 in Auckland ) is a former New Zealand football player and current coach and manager with the U.S. second division club Portland Timbers.

Career

Wilkinson began his career in 1996 at Perth Glory in Australia, where he played until 1999, 68 times, scoring four goals. He then moved for a year to Hong Kong Instant Dict, in 2000 he went to Singapore at Geylang United. In summer 2001, Wilkinson signed a contract with Irish club Kilkenny City, 2002, he moved to the United States to the Portland Timbers, where he played for five years, completed 124 games, scoring four goals.

With the New Zealand national Wilkinson won the 1998 OFC Nations Cup in the final against Australia. He also took part in the Confederations Cup New Zealand 2003. Overall, he played 38 times for his country and thereby scored a goal.

On 26 September 2006 Wilkinson took over as coach with the Portland Timbers, at the same time he is also team manager of the club.
