Gavrilo Rodić

Gabriel Baron of Rodich ( born December 13, 1812 in Vrginmost, Croatia, † May 21, 1890 in Vienna) was a Croatian nobleman and general of the imperial Serbian descent Army.

Life

He retired in 1835 as first border officer by a battle against insurgent beys under Hussein Aga Berbirli in Bosnia attention to himself, fought in 1848-49 under Jellachich ( Croat Jelacic ) against the Hungarians in 1851 and Colonel in 1859 for his defense of the Bay of Kotor ( Kroat Boka kotorska; . ital Cattaro ) against the French and Italian fleet Baron. In 1866 he was in command of the 5th Army Corps significantly to the victories of Custozza. After 1869 uprising in the Bay of Kotor, but only after payment of a sum of money to the rebels, had appeased by the Peace of Knezlac, he was appointed in 1870 as governor of the crown land Dalmatia and was eager to push back the Italians more and more and to bring the Croats to rule. He was therefore in these very popular and was called the "old Gabriel " ( stari Gavro ). Dismissed in 1881, adopted as a field -marshal and appointed a member of the manor, he retired to Vienna, where he died in 1890.
