Gazela Pipeline

Gazelle ( notation of the operator: GAZELLE; internationally also known as GAZELA ) is a natural gas pipeline in the Czech Republic.

The pipeline is mainly used for transit of Russian gas to Western Europe. Operator is Net4Gas, a subsidiary of the German RWE. Construction began in October 2010 and in January 2013 the line went into operation. One expects a capacity 30-33 bcm of gas per year.

The pipeline begins in the northeast on the German -Czech border at Olbernhau (Saxony, Germany ) and Brandov ( Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic). This links the line to the southern end of the Baltic Sea Pipeline Link ( OPAL ). Furthermore, there are here on the German side connections to the Saxony-Thuringia natural gas pipeline ( STEGAL ) and the Central European Transversal (MET ) as well as on the Czech side to the northern end of the TransCanada gas pipeline.

The south-western end of the route lies on the Czech - German border at Rozvadov (Czech Republic) and Waidhaus ( Bavaria, Germany ). There, on the German side the handover to the north branch of the Central European Gas Pipeline ( MEGAL ); on the Czech side is connected to the southern branch of the Trans gas pipeline.
