Geert De Vlieger

Geert De Vlieger ( born October 16, 1971 in Aalst ) is a Belgian football goalkeeper.

Career

The goalkeeper started his career in the youth team of Edracht St. Gillis. The first big club that undertook De Vlieger, was the KSK Beveren 1989. 1995, he joined his first real big club RSC Anderlecht, where he matured into a national player in his home country Belgium. After a one-year detour at Harelbeke, followed by a six-month commitment at RSC Anderlecht, de Vlieger went in January 2000 to Willem II Tilburg in the Netherlands. From 2004 to 2006 the goalkeeper played for Manchester City in the English Premier League. In 2006 he moved to SV Zulte -Waregem.

De Vlieger has played 43 times in the Belgian national football team and was first-choice goalkeeper at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. He also belonged to the Belgian squad at Euro 2000, but came to no use at this tournament.
